Wassail...

Wassail

Bringing wassail bowl to the elfs...
To drink today......on a merry New years Eve....Have fun everyone..

6 cups ale pinch of cloves
1 cup sugar pinch of nutmeg
pinch of cinnamon 6 eggs, beaten
pinch of ginger 4 roasted apples

Pour ale in a saucepan and heat. Add sugar and spices
and bring to a boil. Remove from heat. Gradually add a
small amount of the hot mixture to the beaten eggs, as
for custard. Return to saucepan and cook, stirring
constantly, until slightly thickened. Place apples in a
heat-proof punch bowl, and pour the hot mixture over
As they drank they said the old Saxon phrase, 'wass hael', meaning 'to your health.' Hence this came to be recognized as the wassail or wassel bowl.

Above the fields of snow...

“When Christmas bells are swinging above the fields of snow, we hear sweet voices ringing from lands of long ago, and etched on vacant places are half-forgotten faces of friends we used to cherish, and loves we used to know.”

Ella Wheeler Wilcox (American poet and writer 1850-1919)

Lets have a Ball......

Victorian Dancing Etiquette

"One should be scrupulous and not wound the prejudices of a friend by sending her an invitation to a ball when it is well known she is conscientiously opposed to dancing."

Dance with grace and modesty, neither affect to make a parade of your knowledge; refrain from great leaps and ridiculous jumps, which would attract the attention of all towards you....

"You are quite welcome...

Well whats this..a fairy..no its little Thumbelina..
You poor little creature,” said the field-mouse, who was really a good old field-mouse, “come into my warm room and dine with me.” She was very pleased with Thumbelina, so she said, “You are quite welcome to stay with me all the winter, if you like; but you must keep my rooms clean and neat, and tell me stories, for I shall like to hear them very much.” And Thumbelina did all the field-mouse asked her, and found herself very comfortable...

I wish you al a very comfortable weekend...

Carollers..

We are a band of carollers,
We march through frost and snow,
But care not for the weather
As on our way we go.
At every hall or cottage
That stands upon our way,
We stop to give the people
Best wishes for the day.
We pray a merry Christmas,
Made bright by Christmas cheer,
With peace, and hope, and gladness
And all they may hold dear.
And for all those that happen
To pass us on our way
We have a smile, and wish them

A merry Christmas-day.

4.12.08

Yawning..

Around this time of year I am always very sleepy ..I find myself yawning all day long ..is it because the days are short and dark..we need some more daylight..?
Why do we yawn..the simple truth is that even though humans have been yawning for possibly as long as they have existed, we have no clue as to why we do it...
Well its one of the very small questions we don't have to find an answer for..
There are more important things we would like to know...like to find a way to make this world a better place for everyone..

I wish you a peaceful weekend...

Solitude

“Language... has created the word "loneliness" to express the pain of being alone. And it has created the word "solitude" to express the glory of being alone.”

I can enjoy Solitude very much,in fact I really need it...

WHO..

Who loves the trees best?
'I,' said the Spring;
'Their leaves so beautiful
To them I bring.'
Who loves the trees best?
'I,' Summer said;
'I give them blossoms,
White, yellow, red.'
Who loves the trees best?
'I,' said the Fall;
'I give luscious fruits,
Bright tints to all.'
Who loves the trees best?
'I love them best,'
Harsh Winter answered;
'I give them rest.'

Bells..

Humbug!" said Scrooge; and walked across the room.

After several turns he sat down again. As he threw his head back in the
chair, his glance happened to rest upon a bell, a disused bell, that
hung in the room, and communicated, for some purpose now forgotten, with
a chamber in the highest story of the building. It was with great
astonishment, and with a strange, inexplicable dread, that, as he
looked, he saw this bell begin to swing. It swung so softly in the
outset that it scarcely made a sound; but soon it rang out loudly, and
so did every bell in the house..
