The call of the wild Geese...

“You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees for a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
 Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain are moving across the landscapes, over the prairies and the deep trees, the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air, are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely, the world offers itself to your imagination, calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting – over and over announcing your place in the family of things.”

 ― Mary Oliver

My dear, dear zuster!

I am late, which is probably going to be my habit from now on with the schedules I have. But I will be here, like the wild geese who ALWAYS come home.

This is the FIRST POEM I ever read (now about 5 years ago) that called me. Mary Oliver was the first poet I read in my adult life that spoke to my more mature mind and heart. And she is right; when we are lonely, we must simply listen to the quiet voice of the imagination, that which is raw and US, that which calls over and over, to the point of harassing our peace... and there I find where I belong.

Welcome home my sister. May everything fall into place just right.
