Parliaments...

Large numbers of Magpies often gather to resolve territorial conflicts and social standing.They do this in my garden every morning very urly and believe me its very noisy.. These gatherings, called parliaments, probably gave rise to the many nursery rhymes and poems about Magpies, such as:

One for sorrow, two for mirth,
Three for a wedding, four for a birth,
Five for silver, six for gold,
Seven for a secret not to be told.
Eight for heaven, nine for hell,
And ten for the devil's own sel'.

Or more commonly:

One for sorrow, two for joy;
Three for a girl, four for a boy;
Five for silver, six for gold;
Seven for a secret, never to be told;
Eight for a wish, nine for a kiss;
Ten for a bird that's best to miss

Bells..

Humbug!" said Scrooge; and walked across the room.

After several turns he sat down again. As he threw his head back in the
chair, his glance happened to rest upon a bell, a disused bell, that
hung in the room, and communicated, for some purpose now forgotten, with
a chamber in the highest story of the building. It was with great
astonishment, and with a strange, inexplicable dread, that, as he
looked, he saw this bell begin to swing. It swung so softly in the
outset that it scarcely made a sound; but soon it rang out loudly, and
so did every bell in the house..

Scary story time...

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, by Washington Irving; The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow Page 18
On mounting a rising ground, which brought the figure of his fellow-traveller in relief against the sky, gigantic in height, and muffled in a cloak, Ichabod was horror-struck on perceiving that he was headless! but his horror was still more increased on observing that the head, which should have rested on his shoulders, was carried before him on the pommel of his saddle! His terror rose to desperation...

Wish you a wonderful(and scary) Halloween.....

Undine in the branches

Undine by Friedrich de la Motte Fouque - Full Text Free Book (Part 1/2)
There they saw, by the light of the now risen moon, the
brook which issued from the wood rushing wildly over its banks, and
whirling onward with it both stones and branches of trees in its
rapid course. The storm, as if awakened by the uproar, burst forth
from the clouds, whose immense masses of vapour coursed over the moon
with the swiftness of thought; the lake roared beneath the wind that
swept the foam from its waves; while the trees of this narrow
peninsula groaned from root to topmost branch as they bowed and swung
above the torrent.

"Undine! in God's name, Undine!" cried the two men in an agony. No
answer was returned. And now, regardless of everything else, they
hurried from the cottage, one in this direction, the other in that,
searching and calling.

Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen - Volume I, Chapter I

I have an hundred things to say to you. In the first place, I was so afraid it would rain this morning, just as I wanted to set off; it looked very showery, and that would have thrown me into agonies

Peter Pan - Chapter 4 - James M. Barrie - Read Print
THE FLIGHT
"Second to the right, and straight on till morning."

That, Peter had told Wendy, was the way to the Neverland; but even birds, carrying maps and consulting them at windy corners, could not have sighted it with these instructions. Peter, you see, just said anything that came into his head.

And now, my dear readers and friends, I am off for a few days to a far away place..
See you on iiiits Monday day,have a wonderfull flight through your weekend ,and take care!

Letters

van Gogh's Letters - Unabridged
Vincent van Gogh remained in London... he visited the many art galleries and museums and became a great admirer of British writers such as Charles Dickens
Unlike Dickens, Van Gogh never achieved fame or wealth in his lifetime. He had no reason to think that he was accomplished, but his mania-induced grandiosity convinced him that he was godlike. He was overconfident in his art (a type which was looked down upon in that time period), and he would pursue it vigorously. Instead of taking time off from his art to earn money, he would simply not eat. Impulsivity was another manic trait that he suffered. Van Gogh smoked a pipe because Dickens advised it as a cure for melancholy.Each night, when the hours of painting and drawing were over, Vincent van Gogh put pen to paper and poured out his heart through letters - no thought was too small, no element of his craft too insignificant, no happening too trivial but it was scrupulously recorded and shared. The letters of Vincent are adited in such a way as to retain every line of beauty, significance and importance. "Vincent was as great a writer and philosopher,as he was a painter."

Laughing brook

Anne of the Green Gables: Chapter IV -- Morning at Green Gables: "Oh, I don't mean just the tree; of course it's lovely--yes, it's radiantly lovely--it blooms as if it meant it--but I meant everything, the garden and the orchard and the brook and the woods, the whole big dear world. Don't you feel as if you just loved the world on a morning like this? And I can hear the brook laughing . Have you ever noticed what cheerful things brooks are? They're always laughing"
