The Steam Roller.......

I am time traveling for about 53 tears now...and what a journey it was..!!!
Imagine....53 Christmas trees..53 winters...53 times seeing the season change..53 birthdays..happy times..sad times..difficult times..magical times..you name it ..and a LOT of memories...
Can you recall your first childhood memory..?
I remember when I was One year old..my mother sat me in my high chair
...in front of the window in the livingroom so I could watch what was going on outside...There I saw a steam roller....changing the lovely coblestone covered street into a busy asphalt road...This steam roller made quite an impression on me...AND the workers ..who saw me sitting there...they were waving and making funny faces..I believe they also did this to get a glimps of my mother...!
Anyway..this was my very first memory..and I cherisch it dearly!
I wish you magical memories..we've only just begun...

To look backward for a while is to refresh the eye, to restore it, and to render it the more fit for its prime function of looking forward. ~Margaret Fairless Barber, The Roadmender

Mijn HERTOGIN.....this was a lovely post....and that darling little bébé...you....oh my, what a gift you have given me this morning....My first memory dear one? Do you know that I have a photo of when I was 6 months old. I was lying on the floor. My grandfather, the ONLY MEMORY I HAVE OF HIM, was sitting on the couch with an older cousin of mine. He was hugging her, and I remember wanting him to pick me up, so I cried. All I remember was him yelling in Spanish, "SHUT UP!" All I wanted, at 6 months old, was to be picked up. But many fonder memories remain in my head and heart of a wonderful, painful, learning experience of going on 53 years myself....and the last two have been extremely magical in knowing that I have a DUTCH ZUSTER, A HERTOGIN to awaken my imagination. Many happy days ahead to you dearest friend, and I hope you enjoy your faery that I made just for you. I am making one now for our dear Penny, in blue.....GROSSES BISES en VEEL KUSJES, Nita

Dear Dutchess,
First of all - I just love the background of your blog right now.
Your first memory at age 1?! That is very very early .... It is a lovely story and I can just see it happen.
I recall two memories vividly at age 4 and 5. @4: watching a frog in a stream near the house on the tea plantation, @5: dangling my sister's silken hair bows out of the port hole of the ms Willem Ruys. Two of those now are used as Christmas bows, one for the dog!
My mind is travelling also criss cross my Christmas years. Wonderful and something to be very thankful about.
Happy holidays!

Lieve Dutchess zal ik je ook een geheimpje verklappen.
My memories go far back in time ( 55 birthdays) but I still feel young at heart.
Leuk om herinneringen op te halen.
Maakt me wel een beetje weemoedig.
Liefs

What a lovely post! Love your festive background too:) What a super story about your first memories. I remember sitting up in my cot crying and seeing my mother rushing along the landing toward my open door to see why I was crying - I remember looking through the sides of the cot. All my best wishes for the New Year.
