To cross the invisible line..

When coming across this beautiful painting my mind immediately wandered of to a place I knew when I was young....THE LIBRARY..!

It was a small library..maybe the size of a classroom..maybe even smaller..Places always seem bigger when you yourself are small..and I was a very petite girl..People often imagined me  younger then I was.

When stepping into the library - (with the entrance in the middle )- there was a choice..to the right...for young readers..to the left for adults!
Now..before I go any further in my story, you must know that I was a fierce reader of books..I devoured them..I was a book monster..Tons and tons of books I took home with me..to much to carry..and I read and read into the wee hours of the night..!
So..One day..I came to the  devastating moment in time that there were no more books to the right...I read them all..once, or twice..or like uncountable..
But...to go the left side of the Library..ME..a little girl that looked like TEN ( I was 12) and you weren't supposed to go to the left until you were 13..!!!

In the middle of the Library sat ..the Librarian..You know..THE person in charge..!
She was the one to go to before you were allowed to take a book home with you..The many times she stamped my books..while looking over the rim of her glasses..

With  her all seeing eyes sitting behind her enormous desk... she divided the Library into two camps..one familiar for me..one very tempting to explore..
An invisible line right in front of her ..for me to cross...to the other side..to the place where adventure was waiting.

I know I must have stood there for minutes or longer....then, whilst taking a deep breath .. crossed over...waiting to hear a voice say something like..

- Hmm Hmm...little girl..!-

But no sound was heard..well...maybe from a book or two....they welcomed me...whispering ."what took you so long."

(thank you dear sweet lady Librarian..you knew who I was...xoxo)

Dear Dutchess,

What a lovely story! I, too, love books, and the library has always been a wonderful place for me. We are in the process of looking for a new home and I've been trying to get rid of a few books first. It's hard to part with them!

Love,

Marqueta

Dearest one, I am late....school calls and demands my time, but THIS IS WHERE I WANT TO BE.....in the book of memories, those childhood recollections of books, the smell of the library, the little tables where we little one sat. It was an adventure, it still IS an adventure. To hold a book, to turn the pages and wonder what awaits you.

This is a well-told story of a petite girl who never knew until many years later that she has a twin across the ocean who also loved books, always wanted to CROSS THE INVISIBLE LINE over to adventure, and who found her twin in the ether of the internet. Oh dearest, keep bringing us your stories! THEY ARE WONDERFUL!
