Singing still...

"What can I say that I have not said before?
So I’ll say it again. The leaf has a song in it.
Stone is the face of patience.
Inside the river there is an unfinishable story
and you are somewhere in it
and it will never end until all ends.

Take your busy heart to the art museum
and the chamber of commerce
but take it also to the forest.
The song you heard singing in the leaf
when you were a child is singing still.

I am of years lived, so far, seventy-four,
and the leaf is singing still.

(from, “What Can I Say”)" — Mary Oliver

What a beautiful cinemagraph, Dutchess. It has been so windy here the last two days and the leaves are SINGING.

First of all, you may know already that Mary Oliver was the first American poet I ever read, and it was her work that sparked that fire of passion in me for poetry reading. Then the more I read her, the more I wanted to write like her.

She once wrote, "Pay attention. Be astonished. Write about it." And so she has. As long as there is this cycle of living and dying, we are all still singing. My parents have been gone now 29 years, and their "leaves" are still quaking within me, and now my hope is that in my writing, they will continue on, and that I will continue.

Dearest Dutchess, you always select the best moments. And I could just sit here all day and watch this video......
