Studies and completed illustrations for Gentleman Mouse and Lady Mouse

Beatrix Potter dressed the mice in authentic 18th-century costume, based partially on garments in the V&A’s collections. Gentleman Mouse(Miss Moussie's Hubby) wears court dress, with a tricorne hat. Lady Mouse(Miss Moussie) wears an open cotton gown, red silk quilted petticoat, apron and linen mob cap. The teacups date from about 1800.Pictures taken at the breakfast table of the Dutchess at Hilltop Hall.
No teacups where broken,no mice left without making a mess...FOODFIGHT....

Ms Potters mice are really the only ones I care for, having had serious house infestations.
One even riuned a brand new suede jacket...
But, I do love to see doormice & field in the wild.

Lovely, dutchess. I'll never see a mouse again - and I do see quite a few courtesy of my feline friends - without mentally dressing them in 18th century costume:) What a wonderful breakfast party you have had I especially admire your fine china cups!
A sweet pair of period mice! What could be more charming? To have hot tea poured out for us both in those pretty cups...that's what!
