Saudade

“What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.”

{"saudade" is a feeling that you have when someone you love is far away or lost. It's like missing something. 'I miss you 'would correspond in portuguese to : Tenho(have) "saudades" tuas(of you)}

Now you move me :)

saudade the most portuguese word..the portuguese are always leaving their country...first to the crusades, after to discover the world and "give wordls do the worlds" (as Camoes, our great poet has written) and done the first globalisation, connecting all the five continents...after the emigration (in the sixties because of Salazar dictadorship; today because the best educated people are leaving to work in international teams (and portuguese expertise in certain areas is very considered...and economical crisis also is a motive...
Saudade is remember also with joy and nostalgie, hoping in future, to see again, to feel again...
Very beautiful post and with Mariza music, so touching...too much to my portuguese heart...but as I sad, we cry and smile at the same time ;)
Forgive me my english mistakes...my head is spining around in this moment with the learning of a new language... it is normal ;)
You capture the portuguese soul...heel goed! :)

Oh dearest, that is a beautiful, beautiful picture. In French, the same grammatical construction is used: Tu me manques or "you are missed by me." It is turned arounded from the English. "Saudade" is what all of us felt while you were away! Now the little mouse is dancing her heart out for you; so am I!!!! Anita

The picture is fantastic and the quote is wonderfull to. Although I lived in Lisbon for 30 years, I never seen it, because I avoid cemiterys. I can't help it, because I'm scared of death, not mine, but of loosing the ones I love. It takes courage to go to a cemitery - they can be beautiful, but said - "Saudade" of the people that were important in our lives and can not be here anymore. Sublime!
