My Carpet..

Consider the many special delights a lawn affords: soft mattress for a creeping baby; worm hatchery for a robin; croquet or badminton court; baseball diamond; restful green perspectives leading the eye to a background of flower beds, shrubs, or hedge; green shadows - "This lawn, a carpet all alive/With shadows flung from leaves' - as changing and as spellbinding as the waves of the sea, whether flecked with sunlight under trees of light foliage, like elm and locust, or deep, dark, solid shade, moving slowly as the tide, under maple and oak. This carpet!

- Katharine S. White, Onward and Upward in the Garden, 1979

Today I have to mow my carpet.. with a little help from my feathered friends....

Oh dearest Dutchess,

Mozart is perfect for this little vignette that you share today; teehee...I love the way birds eat, the way they act. I am watching a little bird in our bird house. There was a finch that had set up her nest there, hatched her babies then left. Now another bird has been coming to steal the parts of the nest to build elsewhere! I just get a kick out of the smallest things.

Have you been getting as much rain as we have? The lawns here are so green with nourishment from the sky. Have a super fun day out in the garden my beloved Dutchess! Nita

Such a pretty painting!
I laugh over the lawn story: my oh my, me and my lawns ..... can write a book about them!

Dearest Dutchess,

How lovely to see your comment today; the rain is constant and is starting to wear on my mood. I am rather sad at the moment, so I hope the sun comes out to dry away my tears.

I did see some ducks in our front garden enjoying the rain! They are so pleasant to watch.
